The Right Perspective [Philippians 2.14]

It’s easy to find something wrong with our circumstances. Complaining is commonplace in our culture. How quickly we see the size of our problems first rather than see the size of our God who is sovereign over them.

Elizabeth Elliot once said, “It is always possible to be thankful for what is given rather than to complain about what is not given. One or the other becomes a habit of life.” I think the apostle Paul would agree—how our perspectives might change if we acted in trust and obedience!

Philippians 2.14

14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing,

[ WHAT ] is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that we learn?

+ Consider the immediate context of this from yesterday’s passage. How does v 13 help us do what Paul calls us to in v. 14?

+ Which is the most convicting part of this verse for you? Why?

+ Why do you think we are commanded to avoid grumbling and disputing? What is their effect on our minds and souls?

[ HOW ] is the Lord calling me to action/obedience?

+ Is there sin to confess or a next step to take? How has it gone since last time?

+ Do I need to change my perspective and my behavior? Do I need to ask forgiveness of any of the people in my life?

+ Do I truly see God as larger than my problems?

[ WHO ] am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus?

+ What is my next step?
