We hear it often in church…Thanks be to God. Also, praise the Lord. To me, these verses penned by David beautifully depict why we exclaim sentiments like these from hearts full of grateful joy.
In this passage we see David completely surrendering his life unto the Lord by proclaiming that his hope, trust, and faith are in God alone. I think it is important to note that he isn’t just saying these things, either.
In today’s passage, God opens the ears of David and reminds him that offerings and sacrifices (although these could be part of the desired response) are not what God is looking for, but obedience.
As we continue to walk through Luke we can see Jesus answer this prayer to the lost and sick. Restoring and healing, bringing the lost back to the path of righteousness. As Jesus did then, He can still do now.
David first speaks to God in request, then to man(kind) in rebuke, and then maybe even to himself in challenge? Let’s take a deeper look at this great text together!!!
