Today’s passage falls right between two teachings by Jesus and it binds them together…just like the meat between two slices of bread, or the filling between two Oreo cookies (drawing on the banquet motif).

Yesterday, we saw the 72 return with astonishment at the things they were able to do in Jesus’ name. Today, Luke gives us a glimpse into Jesus talking with His dad. We see a picture of a Son who has just been given preview of His kingdom to come, and He is joyful and grateful for the opportunity.
