“In the name of Jesus…”
1) “…let go of my purse.”
2) “…you have no dominion over Newtowne.”
We have seen the name of Jesus change situations in an instant. We have heard of friends who have cried out the name of the Lord Jesus, and we have done it ourselves with great effect. “In the name of Jesus...let go of my purse!” That was our friend, cornered in a New York City alley. When she cried out, the mugger lost all color in his face and ran away. “In the name of Jesus...you have no dominion in Newtowne”. That was a prayer we started crying aloud weekly against demonic entities that have exercised authority in Newtowne for generations (longer story than we have time for this morning).
This name -- Jesus, Yeshu'ah -- has all power in it.
So how does our Master want us to use His name? In faith like the times above. But even more than that, He wants us to use His name in love and humility. And He wants us to do so for a very specific purpose we will discover over the next few days.
Philippians 2.10-11
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
[ WHAT ] is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that we learn?
+ Aside from in heaven and on earth, where will other “knees bow”?
+ What is the ultimate goal of these knees bowing and tongues confessing?
+ On Monday, Hannah will cover verses 12-13 where we’ll find out what emulating this humility is for. It is highly advised that you meditate on the next set of verses to discover the part we play in this cosmic dance.
[ HOW ] is the Lord calling me to action/obedience?
+ Is there sin to confess or a next step to take? How has it gone since last time?
+ In yesterday’s Daily, we find that Christ -- who did not grasp equality with God --also emptied Himself. What argument is too important for you to empty yourself? What family member is too lost for you to empty yourself? What church member or church meeting of your fellow disciples is too cumbersome for you to empty yourself? Too often, we would not answer these questions in a way that we would be proud to admit -- is it possible we as a Church have so often missed both the power of calling out His name and the peace that is found in emulating His humble and sacrificial walk?
[ WHO ] am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus?
+ What is my next step?
