Be Found in Him [Philippians 3.9–11]

Yesterday’s Daily covered gaining Christ. Today we cover the next domino to fall in each one of our “new lives” after gaining Him--being found “in Him”.

Those two words “In Him” unlock the power to do all the lasting works that matter in this life. With our Daily entries, we’ve really been seeking to point everyone towards a call to discipleship. True discipleship is following in the very footsteps of the Master. Easier said than done.

“I don’t think I could ever be a disciple because [enter potentially-legitimate-but-probably-not excuse here] or [enter this or that doubt].” We often wrestle with this because, like Paul, we wrestle with our flesh, and we wonder how can we ever follow in the way of our Master. The Word assures us that He was God, came down, yet was fully man and ran the race as a man, and that he understands our sufferings.

In Him—in Christ—we have access to what sustained Him: God’s Holy Spirit. This changes everything and, though it may take a lifetime, renders every excuse and every doubt powerless.

Let us meditate on His Word and on that beautiful, life-giving truth.

Philippians 3.9-11

9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

[ WHAT ] is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that we learn?

+ How can we gain righteousness from God based on faith? To exercise that level of faith, what faith step has to take place first? (you’ll have to read the verse front to back...and maybe back again depending on how early you’re reading this question) [v. 9]

+ Thinking back to yesterday’s Daily on gaining Christ, what must we be willing to do for that to happen, and to be found In Him?

+ In verse 10, there is a word we as humans absolutely love. What is that word? There are also a couple of words we as humans hate to hear. What are those?

+ What is the reward should we walk as a disciple? [v. 11]

[ HOW ] is the Lord calling me to action/obedience?

+ Is there sin to confess or a next step to take? How has it gone since last time?

+ When we operate within ourselves and give God a “Here I am. Take what I have to give to you, or leave it”...it is those times when we hurt our walk and hurt the blessings and peace and reward that the Father of Lights has for us. Let us walk in a manner that we might instead say, “Here I am In Him. Take all that I have, I leave it.” Prayer, devotion to the Word, humility, loving our neighbors as ourselves…practice daily the disciplines that draw you closer to living abundant life In Him.

[ WHO ] am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus?

+ What is my next step?
