Abounding Love [Philippians 1.9]

In this letter, Paul encourages the Philippians to live as citizens of heaven, to serve God, to serve others, to encourage their faith, and to let them know some news about himself and Epaphroditus. Two key themes are seen in this verse: one being to make spiritual progress, and the other, is that that such progress requires the right spiritual outlook.

Below Paul prays for the Philippians’ love, knowledge, and discernment. Notice, THIS IS A PRAYER WITHIN A LETTER. Prayer and love increase our capacity to discern. Want to discern today’s world? Bathe yourself in prayer for discernment and love for others. You’ll see things differently than before. In the end only two things really matter—accepting Jesus as your Lord and savior, and serving others and bringing them to Jesus.
