Necessary Reflection [Isaiah 43.18-19]

Necessary Reflection [Isaiah 43.18-19]

Speaking to the Israelites in this passage, God encourages them to look forward and focus on His promises of being their Redeemer. And I’m sure He said these things because His people were tempted to give into the fears, unbelief, and past hardships, which were weighing over them throughout this journey towards their promised redemption. How fitting for us as we enter into a new year, especially with how trying 2020 was.

God with Us [Isaiah 7.14]

God with Us [Isaiah 7.14]

At the beginning of this Advent season, let us look at prophecies that foretold Jesus’ birth from a thousand years before Him. In this passage, we see that the Lord in speaking to one of the kings of Israel foretells a sign that will forever change the nation of Israel. God will be with us, which is both one of the most wonderful things but also the most terrifying as we will be in the very presence of God. Let us reflect on this wonderful prophecy about our Lord who came to save us so that God may be with us always.

Beholding Glory [Isaiah 6:1-6]

In this next week, I invite you to dwell on who God is and specifically today, God’s holiness. In this passage, Isaiah is caught up into heaven where he sees what a human can understand of the majesty, beauty, and utmost holiness of God. And his reaction is the only one that a human could possibly have; one of falling on one’s face in worship but also terrifying awe at this immensely holy being. Please reflect on what it means to see God as he truly is, a holy, generous, loving, terrifying God.

Joyous Occasion [1 Chronicles 16:32-34]

Our reading today recounts the story of David and the Israelites bringing the Ark of the Covenant “home” to the new capital of the Jewish nation: Jerusalem, or the City of David. What a joyous occasion!!! The verses we will examine are part of a psalm or song David had composed just for this celebration, extoling the character and the wonderous deeds of Jehovah God. As a former pastor I knew used to say, “if reading this doesn’t get you fired up about God, then your wood is wet”!!!

Rejoice and Have Joy [John 16:22]

As with all the passages this week, today’s reading is brief. Nevertheless, the passage is loaded with a question, and the answer to that question will define your life here and in eternity.

Hebrews 4:12 says that “the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Meditate on the Scripture below, and then let the living and active Word pierce into your thoughts and your heart.
