Today's passage shows us that, at times, if we focus too much on signs and wonders, we may miss the deeper message God is conveying. We also see that we may not understand what God is telling us the first time.

It is important to "let these words sink into our ears" by spending time thinking and meditating on them day and night (Psalm 1.2). Even if the meaning still isn't clear, our response should not be that of fear (II Timothy 1.7), but rather should simply be to ask for wisdom from God (James 1.5) and other Christians in whom He has placed His wisdom (Colossians 3.16).

May the word of God open our spiritual eyes and ears to what God is conveying to us even now, and encourage us to ask God regularly for wisdom.

[Luke 9.43b-45]

43b But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, 44 “Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.” 45 But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

+ Is there sin to confess or a next step to take? How has it gone since last time?

+ Do you take time to pull your attention away from all that is going on and focus on the important message God is sharing with His people now?

+ When you don't understand God's message, do you seek deeper meaning from other sources (other spirits, common or new media sources, social media, etc.), or do you turn to God and ask for wisdom?

+ Are there things in your life you are afraid to ask God for help or insight on? Matthew 7.7-11 can help to relieve that fear and cause you to turn to God even more.
