Salt & Light [Matthew 5:13-14]

As we read through Matthew, remember the theme of the book -- Matthew 1:1, Jesus is the new beginning, the Messiah, and the arrival of the Kingdom of God. He brings redemption and salvation for the Jews and Gentiles.

We see an emphasis on following the lead of the spirit throughout Chapter 4. My prayer is that as we read through the bible we would not only be convicted by the spirit, but respond “immediately” with action when the spirit leads. Praise King Jesus.

Matthew 5:13-14

13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

[ WHAT ] is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that we learn?

+ Besides adding taste, salt was (and still is in many places) used for preserving meat from spoiling. How should you read verse 13 with this context?

+ In verse 14, what is the Light of the world that Jesus is talking about?

+ Continually, what is the city in verse 14 that Jesus is talking about?

[ HOW ] is the Lord calling me to action/obedience?

+ Is there a sin to confess or a next step to take? How has it gone since last time?

+ How are you living in the way of Jesus? How are you responding with action to the conviction and guidance of the Holy Spirit?

[ WHO ] am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus?

+ What is my next step?
