In this section of Colossians which reads more like a psalm, Paul establishes Jesus as divine, as the head of creation, and as the head of the church.
Jesus is Lord over all from creation to the salvation of our souls, to the building of a new heaven and new earth. The supremacy and power of our God are immense and beyond understanding but what is equally so is his love for us. How despite the vastness of this universe, we are each loved, cared for, and pursued by Jesus.
As believers, we have been redeemed and now act as the body of Christ here on this earth. Let us live a life of worship, honoring and revering the holiness of God, obtaining from sin, while loving and pouring out our lives for the lost as He did for us.
[Colossians 1.15-20]
1.15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
