Have Mercy on Our City, Oh God [Daniel 9.17-19]

Today’s verses pack a powerful punch. Daniel is crying out for mercy and the favor of God. He sees the desolation of his city and people and he knows the way out is prayer. Daniel was a man of prayer and used prayer often during the course of his life.

How often do we pray when we see desolation in our city or the lives of those around us and, when we pray for mercy, do we also ask for the favor of GOD? Ultimately, our city, as Daniel says, is God’s city and our people are God’s people. He loves both more than we do

[Daniel 9.17-19]

17 “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. 18 Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. 19 Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”
