God’s Work for Us [Colossians 1.13-14]

We’re talking this week about identity, especially about how being surrendered to Christ impacts our identity. In Christ we go from wrath to grace, from sinner to saint, from darkness to light, from wretched to redeemed. This has a profound impact on our identity. We have been re-identified. In Christ we go from spiritually dead to alive. The old identifiers from our past have been superseded by this all-encompassing new identity in Christ. The question is, do we live like we have been re-identified or do we live in our old identifiers?

[Colossians 1.13-14]

13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

[ WHAT ] is this passage saying and what is a key truth or thought that we learn?

+ Who is doing the work? Notice the subject of the sentence. What does that indicate about our relationship with God? [v. 13]

+ Who has God used to deliver us from darkness? [v. 14]

+ How does Jesus provide us redemption? What is the connection between redemption and the forgiveness of sins? [v. 14]

[ HOW ] is the Lord calling me to action/obedience?

+ Is there sin to confess or a next step to take? How has it gone since last time?

+ How does someone redeemed from darkness and forgiven of their sins live?

+ Are you living fully in the kingdom of Jesus, or are there parts of your life that are still in bondage?

[ WHO ] am I walking with and praying for to discover Jesus?

+ What is my next step?

+ Is there someone I know who needs to be reminded of this truth, of the rescuing work of Christ?
