God's Glory Displayed [Psalm 72:18-19]

Psalm 72 is a royal Psalm—a prayer that David’s heirs hopefully will be faithful kings.  What does that look like? It means ruling Israel well, protecting the poor, and bringing blessings to the nations. The Psalm points forward to the Messiah’s worldwide future rule, David’s ultimate heir.

In verse 19, glory refers to God’s self-displayed presence with his people—in the cloud in the wilderness (Ex. 16:7, 10), the tabernacle (Ex. 40:34–35) the temple (1 Kings 8:11), and present in Jesus (John 1:14). However, in Psalm 72, God’s glory will one day fill the WHOLE earth! Wow. Imagine that!

Psalm 72:18-19

18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
Who alone works wonders.
19 And blessed be His glorious name forever;
And may the whole earth be filled with His glory.
Amen, and Amen.
