Jesus’ invitation to us into ‘kingdom living’ includes radical generosity. He points out that it is easy to be generous when we know it will be reciprocated. True generosity gives and expects nothing in return. Are we willing to do this or are we mentally keeping score with those to whom we show and receive generosity?
Jesus models this generous living for us. He lived a perfect life on our behalf, dying our deserved death, and rose to defeat sin and to reconcile us to the Father--even though we could never repay Him.
In light of how much generosity the Lord offers us, how can we refuse to pour our lives out generously to those around us?
[Luke 14.12-14]
12 He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”
