Be the One – The Thankful One [Luke 17:11-19]

How merciful, the heart of Jesus. Willing to die for us, yet, willing to live for us too. Willing to show us mercy, heal us, guide us and love us. Today’s story is a perfect example of the heart of Jesus as He heals 10 lepers of which, only one, gives thanks. Yet, heal them He did anyway.

He does the same for us, whether we are grateful or not, just by our belief. We are healed to eternal life. Why? Because our gratitude, while pleasing, is not his primary motivation. No, what he is after, his primary motivation, is the the will of His father. He had one goal in mind 24/7, to do the will of His father, please His father, bring glory, honor, and joy to His father.

Jesus spent His entire life in ministry without even a hint of a complaint. He had a human body, just like us. He tired, just like us. He felt, just like us. He hungered just like us. But unlike us, He did the will of His father perfectly, despite His humanness because of His great love for Him and us.

[Luke 17:11-19]

11  On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.  12  And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers,  who stood at a distance  13  and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”  14  When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed.  15  Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice;  16  and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.  17  Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?  18  Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”  19  And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
