As Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount, those gathered stood amazed at what they witnessed. While they had no doubt heard countless teachings from religious leaders, there was something not only unique but spectacular about what and how Jesus was teaching. Some would see Him as a blasphemer; some would see Jesus as a prophet. Some would come to know Him, as we do, as even more outstanding: "the Author and Perfecter of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2). Let the word of God cause us to courageously speak His words and live out His commandments in love for others, under the authority and Author of all.
Matthew 7:28-29
28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
