Assurance in the Son [I John 5.11-13]

This week we continue to discover what it means to have a new identity in Christ.

Today's passage gives assurance of eternal life. This comes from God because of the identity we have in Jesus. There is a life after death, but that life does not begin after we die. We have that life even now. When we believe in Jesus, we are born of the Spirit into that eternal life. It is then that we begin to emit the light of life (John 8.12) that will shine into this dark world of death.

May the word of God fill us with hope and invigorate us to shine Jesus' light and life in love to all around us, both to reassure brothers and sisters in Christ and to draw those looking for the light.

[I John 5.11-13]

11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
