The Garden, Betrayal, & Denial [Matthew 26:30—75]

A lot happens in this passage of Scripture. Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane. He is betrayed by Judas and is arrested. Then, He is presented before Caiaphas, the High Priest, and the Sanhedrin. And, finally Peter denies knowing Jesus three times. The plot arch follows Peter in these 35 verses. Let’s take a look at three aspects of this passage that deal with the theme of the ‘flesh.’

I Never Knew You! [Matthew 7:21-23]

How does this impact today? First, reject anything if it contradicts the Bible. It’s that simple. Jesus is thee Truth. All of the Bible points to Him. Our strength is in Him. It’s all about Him. Next, doing things in the Lord’s name can be hollow even false. What matters is doing “the will of [our] Father who is in heaven.” Pray that you align yourself with God’s will. Do your best to do God’s will. If you do it in His name, great. Just seek his will and do it. Finally, don’t forget, God’s Word is superior to any miracle. In fact, it’s superior to anything. Spend some time in the Word today and every day.

Love Your Enemies! [Matthew 5:43-48]

Forgiveness in our hearts brings peace. Praying for others brings peace. And, loving others brings peace. Especially if the object of our forgiveness, prayer, and love is an enemy. This is what we are called to do as Christians in today’s passage—“to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us.” This is greatly need in today’s culture. Love your enemies.
